Prefabricated Steel Buildings: Common Cost Questions

When my husband and I purchased our first home, the process was stressful, but we settled on one we liked enough to live in temporarily until we expanded our family. When moving time arrived, we both dreaded the expected stress. We ended up using a different real estate agent than we did the first time, and we made a great decision, because she had a lot of home remodeling knowledge! We were adamant on finally finding our "perfect" home this time. When she showed us homes that lacked features we desired that we would have "nixed" before, she let us know if the feature could be added, and usually it could! We are now in our new home that we had a few small renovations performed on after we bought it, and we love it! I want to help others by sharing some remodeling tips I learned on a blog!

Pre-fabricated steel buildings are the ideal solution, if you need an additional structure on your property. These buildings go in place fast, but they offer all the stability, durability, and aesthetic appeal you want for your property. Whether you are buying one of these buildings to use as a garage or otherwise, your primary concern is probably the price. There are a few price factors to consider, for the different parts of getting your building and having it set up. Take a look at some of the most common questions regarding cost, if you intend to buy a steel building for your property.

How much do steel buildings cost?

Pre-fabricated or pre-engineered steel buildings cost about $18 per square foot. You may pay something like $7,000 to $9,000 for a 10-foot by 10-foot building, for example. The prices of the building will be affected by things like:

  • Whether hhhhhhhhhhhhhyou choose windows for the steel building
  • If the building is made with insulated metal panels
  • What type of roof you want on top of the building

When you are working with a steel building designer to pick the best options, make sure you consider how those options will affect the price.

How much does it cost to install a slab of concrete?

A concrete floor simply complements the steel building, especially if you will be using the space for a garage or if you want that completed feel inside. The cost of installing a concrete slab to place the building on will vary according to how big you need that slab to be. According to Home Guide, a 24 by 24 slab of concrete will be anywhere from $3,058 to $5,944. You are charged for concrete by the square foot, and most places charge $4 to $8 per square foot.

How much will it cost to have the steel building delivered?

Delivery may or may not be lumped with the overall cost of the building itself. Some companies will deliver the building for free, when you buy a building. Some companies will charge an additional fee for delivery and setup. The prices can be so varied and so many people do not charge anything for the delivery, so it can be difficult to pin down an exact price. Make sure, when you choose to buy a steel building, that you ask this question openly, to find out what you will be charged.
