You always want to stay on guard when it comes to the condition of your shingle roof. There are some types of roof damages that need to be repaired quickly. However, once they have been repaired, you can expect the roof to be fine for many more years. However, there are other types of damage that can indicate that you need a new roof. While you may be able to get a little more life out of your roof after having these repairs done, you want to keep in mind that the day is approaching where it will need to be replaced. Here are some things to look for that let you know a roofer needs to come out to take care of repairs and inspect the roof to inform you of its overall current condition:
Any missing shingles - If you are missing a few shingles, then it was likely caused by strong winds that made their way through your area recently. However, if you seem to frequently be losing shingles, then it may be due to the way they were installed. The roof may need a lot of repairs to set everything right.
Any visual damages to the shingles - Make a habit out of looking up at the various areas of your roof you can see from the ground when you are passing by them. If you see multiple shingles that have damages like curling, rips, or cracks, then you need to have them repaired. These signs may also indicate that you need to replace the roof. However, if these damages were caused by something, such as being in contact with a branch that has been rubbing back and forth on them, then the repairs may end the current issues.
Dark spots or streaks on the shingles - If you notice there are some areas where the shingles have dark spots or streaks, then this can indicate that something is going on with the shingles like mold or algae growth. Caught in the early stages, the roofer can take care of this issue for you and you might get much more time from the current roof. However, if it isn't caught and dealt with quickly enough, then it can end up damaging your roof to the point that it needs replacement much sooner than it would have otherwise.
Anytime you find anything troubling about the roof, call a roof repair contractor out to have a look. Ignoring something you think may be small can make matters much worse.
